Following on from our presence at the successful Careers Expo at AUT in August, RDT Pacific was excited to be part of the Construction Careers Evening hosted by Unitec’s Department of Construction on October 12.
The Construction Careers Evening event offered employers an opportunity to meet the construction industry’s future players to discuss current and future job opportunities – including permanent roles. We were pleased to meet a high calibre of students and be able to share some information about the work we do.
RDT Pacific has been in the construction industry since its establishment as Russell Drysdale and Thomas in 1943. Since then, a key tenet of our business has been to foster bright new talent to grow the industry in New Zealand and its reputation. For Director David Prentice – a Unitec alumni himself – the Construction Careers Evening was a chance to meet its current crop of students.
Unitec prides itself on producing students with a reputation among employers as being ‘work ready’, and familiar with the sector environment they are entering. Students develop the skills and knowledge required to run building projects of all sizes.
Unitec teaches a range of programmes in Construction Sector disciplines including a Bachelor of Construction and National Diploma courses in Quantity Surveying, Construction Project Management, Construction Management and Architectural Technology. Unitec’s internationally accredited Bachelor of Construction was the first of its type in New Zealand.
These courses take a practical teaching approach which reflects what it’s like to work on real jobs. Unitec’s staff are well connected and experienced within their various disciplines, both in New Zealand and offshore.
