Courier Post, Highbrook
CourierPost’s purpose-built 21,625 m2 Auckland Operations Centre at Highbrook Business Park is the first industrial building in New Zealand to achieve Green Star Certification for its environmentally sustainable design, achieving a 4 Green Star rating representing NZ best practice.
Highbrook Business Park master plan is founded on Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) principles and sets a benchmark for a green industrial building.
The Operations Centre houses New Zealand’s largest courier operations centre capable of processing 18,000 items per hour and incorporates a range of attributes that maximise energy efficiency and reduce CO₂ emissions by 60% per annum when compared to a standard industrial building.
Other green features include an extended office overhang reducing solar gain to assist with air conditioning efficiency, low usage water fittings, rainwater harvesting, carbon dioxide monitoring in office and warehouse areas and environmentally friendly materials used in the construction of the facility.
This development signifies a turning point where sustainability and economic feasibility meet, the capital cost is contained, and operating costs reduced. The design maximises the opportunities without compromising the financial feasibility of this development e.g. the extended overhang allowed for reduced mechanical plant.
All ESD principles have been applied in a robust manner. During the Design development of CourierPost, the team (Client, Tenant, PM, Architect, Services Engineers) had interrogated a range of ESD attributes appropriate of an industrial building. The outcome of the interrogation process was a list of attributes that satisfied both the client and tenant requirements.
