Auckland International Airport

June 2014

  • Project Management

With a presence in 220 countries and territories across the globe and with a workforce exceeding 315,000 employees, logistics leaders DHL can lay claim to being the most international company in the world.

RDT Pacific was engaged by Auckland International Airport to deliver this 12,000m2 warehouse including a 2,000m2 cool store for DHL in late October 2013.

The largest challenge on the project was ensuring that the June 2014 completion date was achieved as the tenants sub-tenant was moving from an existing facility that had a fixed vacant possession date.

In order to achieve this RDT implemented a number of time-saving initiatives to ensure the project could be completed on time, these include:

  • A design underwrite was obtained allowing the design to commence in advance of the Agreement to Lease being executed.
  • The enabling works were procured via the incumbent Landing Civil Contractor, accelerating the start date. This included the negotiation of a variation to the earthworks with the Local Authority.
  • The main contractor was procured on a Pre-construction Services Agreement allowing critical path packages to be procured in advance of agreement on the lump sum contract.
