RDT Pacific provided Project Management services for the seismic strengthening and security upgrade of Whanganui Prison’s East and West Wings.
Both the East and West Wings needed earthquake strengthening and security enhancements to meet ‘high security’ classifications. In the East Wing, this entailed upgrades to 55 cells and common areas, alongside the construction of four exercise yards, a new control room, dedicated programme spaces and new offices.
In the two-storey West Wing – linked to a Remand unit – this included upgrading 75 cells, common areas and movement spaces, and developing a new control room and office spaces.
Minor adjacent buildings were also upgraded, such as the seismic strengthening of the laundry, in addition to asbestos removal and strengthening works for the gym and Te Moenga.
The RDT Pacific team delivered exceptional value to the client via a close team approach to problem-solving and tailoring documents to client needs.
High resourcing levels offered ongoing client support across the board, minimising the potential risk and impact of staff changes during the project.
