Wigram Primary School
Formally Sockburn Primary School, Wigram Primary School commenced as part of the Ministry of Education Christchurch School Renewal Programme (CSRP). The New Wigram Primary School is on a greenfield site within a newly formed housing sub-diversion approximately 1km East of the former Sockburn site. The project was a Design and Construct Contract and the Consultants were novated after Preliminary Design. Architectus was the lead designer and Southbase were the Main Contractors.
The project comprises of an L shaped building incorporating 4 learning hubs, a hall, library, staff room and administration areas which are encompassed by an outdoor learning and courtyard space and playing field. The school also features an indoor sports court and the original Sockburn School bell.
Its logo, two kāhu facing a runway, reflects the aviation history of its new suburb.
Wigram Primary has been relocated to align with population growth in southwest Christchurch.
