Delivering Excellence under Green Star Buildings
RDT Pacific is proud to share a new discussion paper assessing how two Auckland-based developments – a Logistics Warehouse and a Commercial Building – would perform under the new Green Star Buildings NZ v1.0 (GSB) rating tool.
Why This Matters
With the Green Star Design & As Built v1.1 (DAB) tool retiring in May 2025, GSB sets the benchmark for sustainable building certification in Aotearoa. The new tool raises the bar with a stronger focus on performance-based outcomes, net-zero readiness, emphasis on nature and climate resilience, and alignment with global ESG standards including GRESB, TCFD, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Inside the Paper
Leveraging real project data and our team’s experience as Green Star Accredited Professionals (GSAPs), the paper analyses two certified 5 star DAB v1.1 projects to see how they measure up under GSB.
It includes:
- Credit mapping from DAB v1.1 to GSB
- Analysis of the new Minimum Expectations (ME) and compliance risks
- Typology-based insights for logistics warehouse and commercial projects
- Strategic guidance for a smoother transition to GSB
Key Insights
- Credit Continuity – Many DAB credits transfer to GSB, providing a strong starting point.
- ME Gap – Currently, the assessed projects meet all ME, if they had been incorporated into the design brief they could have been achieved.
- 5 star Potential – Both projects could achieve a 5 star GSB rating with targeted enhancements and ME compliance.
Strategic Recommendations
- Start Early: Integrate GSB requirements into project briefs from day one. Understanding the intent behind each credit allows for tailored, practical solutions that support meaningful and achievable outcomes.
- Leverage Experience: Experience gained with DAB projects is a valuable foundation for navigating the new GSB.
- Integrated approach: Combining project management with GSAP expertise streamlines delivery and reduces risk.
At RDT Pacific, we’re committed to empowering our clients to create sustainable, high-performing, and future-ready built environments.
This discussion paper reflects that mission – offering clear, actionable insights to navigate the evolving sustainability landscape with confidence.
