DCI Data Centers – AKL02

RDT Pacific is proud to have provided Project Management and Engineer to the Contract services for DCI Data Centers AKL02 facility; a next-generation cloud data centre in Auckland. The first stage of this hyperscale data centre facility is now complete and will play a significant role in enhancing New Zealand’s digital infrastructure. The project is expected to inject approximately $400 million into the local economy, with an estimated economic value of $1.1 billion over its economic lifetime.

AKL02 will eventually be a 40MW facility on 7ha of land. This first stage provides 10MW of data hall capacity (5MW fitted out) and the facility is designed for flexibility whilst ensuring resiliency. The first hall has been designed with industry leading resiliency, ensuring there are redundant systems in place whilst also achieving an efficient capital expenditure to minimise the cost per megawatt ($/MW). Data halls can be configured for different electrical and mechanical systems – achieving levels and types of redundancy to suit the individual occupants’ requirements.

RDT Pacific managed the project from the initial site investigation through to the final handover of the facility. Services provided included:

  • Site Investigation including the management of civil, geotechnical, environmental, planning, traffic and surveying disciplines.
  • Procurement Strategy including all Consultants, the Main Contractor and dedicated 33kV supplies from Transpower’s GEP.
  • Consenting Strategy including the management of multi-faceted Resource Consents, Building Consents and Engineering Approvals.
  • Design Management which was completely designed and coordinated within a BIM environment.
  • Construction Management including dedicated site-based resources.
  • Commissioning was managed with a Commissioning Agent for Commissioning Levels 1 to 5 including Integrated Systems Testing.
  • Handover including the facilitation of training for the facilities management team and documentation.
  • Defect Management during the DNP.

RDT Pacific’s expertise in data centre project management has been instrumental in delivering this ambitious facility.

Our team is proud to have collaborated with DCI Data Centers and other project partners to support the development of New Zealand’s critical infrastructure.
