Hellmann Warehouse Expansion
Hellmann Worldwide Logistics faced an enviable challenge in their New Zealand operations. Growth and success demanded they expand their existing Auckland Airport property by 7,000 m² to enable high-level logistics automation and robotic solutions. RDT Pacific was engaged by both Hellmann Worldwide Logistics and Auckland International Airport to manage this ambitious development – aligning the interests of both tenant and landlord to deliver a future-proof facility.
This bold vision to develop a “robot-ready” building required specialist expertise to ensure seamless integration, mitigate risks and meet their automation goals.
RDT Pacific was engaged as Project Manager by both Hellmann Worldwide Logistics (tenant) and Auckland Airport (landlord), working closely with both parties to develop a technical brief and align interests across stakeholders.
- Developing a strategy in response to the client’s budget and risk appetite for the project.
- Identifying appropriate vendors and consultants with expertise in logistics automation.
- Managing procurement and integrating various components to avoid gaps or interface risks.
RDT Pacific took a proactive approach that went beyond tenant fit out and logistics automation integration brief for this expansion. By identifying potential risks and gaps in the original vendor information and building design, RDT Pacific helped avoid costly delays and enabled informed decision-making.
Translating Hellmann Worldwide Logistics’ complex operational needs into a functional building required extensive consultation. RDT Pacific engaged stakeholders across the organisation and industry at every stage, from design to tender. They also represented the client’s interests with the landlord to capture their logistics requirements.
The RDT Pacific Quantity Surveying team played a key financial role, ensuring costs were not just controlled but optimised. As financial stewards for the project, they reviewed construction contract items to ensure fair pricing and optimal value for Hellmann. This extra layer of financial oversight and advocacy provided important assurance.
RDT Pacific’s expertise in logistics and industrial property means we can offer valuable insights into best practices and trends. This has helped Hellmann make data-driven decisions to future-proof their growing operations.
Despite changes and complexities, RDT Pacific delivered this stage of the project on schedule. In a sector where delays are all too frequent, this equates to significant cost savings for Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, who have already achieved multiple objectives for this ambitious, future-forward project.
