Ohoka Roll Growth Development
Ohoka School, a growing primary school in North Canterbury, required immediate expansion to meet increasing roll pressures. The Ministry of Education engaged RDT Pacific to manage the delivery of new teaching space solutions.
The project involved relocating two Ministry-owned relocatable buildings to the school site and refurbishing them into a high-quality, flexible teaching block. The project delivered two new classrooms, integrated with the school requirements, which now serve the school long-term due to the quality of the outcome.
RDT Pacific was appointed to provide both Project Management and Quantity Surveying services from procurement through to completion for this project. Our role included full project and cost oversight, coordination of the design and delivery teams, and contract administration support to ensure compliance with Ministry standards and processes.
Through regular site meetings and clear documentation processes, we maintained programme momentum, resolved variations efficiently, and ensured stakeholder confidence throughout the project.
Scope of works included internal demolition and fitout, installation of new compliant access ramps and stairs, full refurbishment of bathrooms, new walls, flooring, targeted recladding, glazing replacement, HVAC, lighting, and alarm upgrades.
Strong working relationships with the Ministry, design team, contractor, and school leadership helped to ensure smooth delivery on a live school site – with zero disruption to learning.
Originally designed as a temporary teaching solution, to address rapid roll growth requirements, the finished facility far exceeded expectations. It now offers Ohoka School a high-quality, durable space that is adaptable for future teaching needs – a great example of resourceful investment delivering long-term value.
