Ormiston Primary School
In the midst of a fast-growing community, Ormiston Primary School had reached its capacity. A new 2100m² two-storey block with 16 new teaching spaces, two new learning support facilities (for Mount Richmond Special School), and infrastructure improvements were the answer, and it couldn’t come soon enough.
Ormiston Primary School is enjoying an expansive new building with innovative teaching spaces and associated infrastructure, including a 58-space car park area.
RDT Pacific was engaged by the Ministry of Education for Project Management and Engineer to the Contract services for the design and construction of this project – the third stage in a three-part upgrade we have been involved in from the start.
Site awareness, good communication and familiarity with the requirements of Ministry of Education projects were at the core of this school-changing project.
As well as the new brick and concrete building and car park, the site required significant power and drainage upgrades.
Challenges for this project included unforeseen groundwork issues and the after-effects of the Covid-19 pandemic impacting timeframes. In spite of this, milestones were achieved, and the project was delivered on time and within budget.
Balancing the disruptive effects of construction during school hours, was a top priority for the project team. An astute understanding of each stakeholder meant their needs could be prioritised in line with the project’s goals.
RDT Pacific were engaged due to their extensive experience in the Aotearoa New Zealand education sector.
