RDT Pacific was engaged by the Ministry of Education to provide Project Management services for the design and construction of Ormiston Primary School in Auckland.
Ormiston Primary School is located on the same site as Ormiston Junior College and adjacent to the Ormiston Senior College development. The Primary School has a separate school status but shares some facilities with Ormiston Junior College.
Designed to achieve a 5 GreenStar rating, every feature of this school was designed to minimise energy consumption and operational costs. The quality of acoustics, natural light, ventilation and outdoor environments are significantly higher than those achieved in other public schools in the country.
The project was procured under a Guaranteed Maximum Price, Design and Build contract which featured Early Contractor Involvement with the design team novated over to the contractor at the end of the Developed Design stage.
Ormiston Primary School was built in two stages:
Stage 1 – comprised all school infrastructure (library, administration, resource and hall) for 720 students and teaching accommodation for 375 students.
Stage 2 – comprised of teaching space for an additional 345 students.
As Ormiston Junior High School was scheduled to open in 2016, the bulk earthworks for this school was undertaken during stage 1 of Ormiston Primary School.
