RDT Pacific provided Project Management services for Waste Management NZ Limited new facility, a fit for purpose, world-class development which innovatively combines their operational and non-operational activities in one facility and improves corporate welfare.

Stride Property, Waste Management and the entire project team have developed a 9,100m2 facility on the 5.2ha site that meets Waste Managements current needs but is designed to adapt as their organisation evolves.

The commercial and industrial facility comprises a truck depot, bin storage, workshops, offices, car parking and extensive landscaping. The new facility includes enclosed workshops for maintenance of the Waste Management truck fleet, a workshop for onsite conversions of their trucks to electric and other equipment such as bins and skips, hardstand surfaces for truck parking and bin storage.

An innovative feature of the project is the separation of the “operational” and “non-operational” functions within one facility. The operational functions include truck parking, bin storage and workshops where entry into these areas is restricted. Non-operational functions include the state of the art office and car parking for staff and visitors. The design physically separates health and safety-sensitive operations from the rest of the site, creating a safe environment for all users.

This facility has exceeded objectives and successfully changed the way Waste Management employees work and interact with each other. The Hub, in the centre of the facility, provides a link between the operational and non-operational and is a place for all staff.

Sustainability was fundamental from the outset of the project, highly visible green aspects throughout this facility point towards a more conscientious use of natural resources and a commitment to sustainable principles. The facility is on target to achieve a 5 Green Star rating from NZGBC.
